The 2000 season started with a home opener friday night against the Trojans of North College Hill. Both teams started off moving the ball well, but couldn't break into the end zone. The Wildcats started off the scoring in the 2nd quarter. A 25 yd. reception and a solid run by Drew Reichle set up a Kellen Campbell TD from the 3 yd. line. A Chris Horwath XP gave the Wildcats a 7-0 lead.
NCH returned the score with a quick strike to Daryl Snow for 65 yds. The XP tied the game at 7-7.
Not to be outdone, the Wildcats responded with a long pass of their own. QB Ryne McCormick connected with senior Drew Reichle for a 55 yd. TD. The extra point by Chris Horwath gave the Wildcats a 14-7 lead at the half.
After an uneventful 3rd quarter, the Wildcats added to their lead. QB Nick Phile hit Kellen Campbell on a 12 yd. TD pass early in the 4th quarter. The XP by Chris Horwath was good.
With 4 minutes to go in the game, junior Kellen Campbell ran for his 3rd TD of the game from 3 yds out. The XP gave Finneytown a strong 28-7 lead.
With 2:22 to go in the game, the Trojans broke a 55 yd. run for a score. The XP was good, but it was too little... too late. The Wildcats win the season opener, 28-14.
