The Wildcats opened up their home season with a dominant showing against the Hillsboro Indians. The Wildcats took their first possession into the endzone on a 4 yd. run by Eugene Partridge. The extra point by Chris Horwath was good to give the Wildcats an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. They never looked back.
Half way through the first quarter, QB Ryne McCormick fought off heavy pressure and hit Brandon Martin on a 55 yd TD pass. The extra point was good. 14-0.
Skyler Hughes blocked an Indian punt to set up the third score of the quarter. Chris Horwath nailed the 32 yd. FG.
As the offense continued to roll, the defense was just as dominant. The Indians failed at every attempt to move the ball. David Warner grabbed an interception late in the 1st quarter to end yet another Indian drive.
The interception by Warner set up a Ryne McCormick QB sneak
to score early in the 2nd quarter. The kick was good giving the Wildcats a 24-0 lead.
The 2nd quarter moved a little more slowly (for awhile) until McCormick connected with Jim Brehm. A nice move after the catch brought Brehm into the endzone for a 30-0 lead. The xp was no good.
With 0:36 left to go in the half, the game was suspended due to lightning. The delay didn't slow down the Wildcats though, as they marched the length of the field capping the drive with a 20 yd. TD pass to Brandon Martin. The kick was good to give the Wildcats a 37-0 lead at the half.
The 3rd Quarter continued to be all Wildcats as Brandon Martin picked off an interception, and Eugene Partridge scored his second TD of the game on a 1 yd. run.
The second half allowed Coach Dixon to play some of his reserve and freshman players. This provided them with valuable experience which should come in handy later in the season. The Indians scored three fourth quarter TDs, but it was too little too late.
Final Score: Finneytown Wildcats 44 - Hillsboro Indians 22
