How to add Navigation Links

Monday, November 13, 2000

The article, How to add Navigation Links will explain how you can add to the list of links on the left-hand column of your weblog. This somewhat complicated and very non-intuitive procedure is one of the most-often asked questions I get!

I ran across an interesting weblog, called Teachnology, an intriguing name.

Tiny New: You can now see how many hits your site has received within the past 24 hours. To do this, add "/stats/hourlyhits" to your URL. For example, the hits on this weblog can be viewed at http://weblogs.eos.net/FSDExample/stats/hourlyhits See this article for more details. Keep in mind that your hits are also counted! So if you are working on your weblog, you should see quite a few hits in a small amount of time.

Here is an article that explains how to get the nice black dividing bar between the newsdays.

You can specify how many days worth of stuff to display on your front page. The default setting for this is just 1 day. This setting is in the Editor's Prefs, the Appearance section. Scroll towards the bottom. The setting is called "How many news days should appear on the home page?". This article explains it in detail.

Here are some new things I ran across this afternoon.

You can see a ranking of the most popular pages of your weblog. This message explains how.

You can also see what other websites are linking to your's, and are bringing in traffic. This message explains that as well.

Jack-O-Lantern: I hope you get some ideas here, to use in your own weblog!

Feel free to copy the code used in any of the pages.

Topics by Subject shows you how to create a page using a table. The table contains several bulleted lists of topics. Each list item could be a link to a story with more specific information about that topic.

10-30-00 Homework shows how you can "nest" lists together to get kind of an outline format.

Effects of the Table Parameters shows how you can vary 3 parameters to get the "look" you want in a table.

Weekly Schedule shows a rather fancy table with different background colors in the cells. Better get your pocket-protector & propeller hat before delving into this one!Propellerhead:

Levers shows how you might put a small experiment in a page.

Here are some graphics you might find useful. Useful Small Graphics, Dividing Graphics, & Fun Animations. The complete list of pictures is here. Blinking Smiley:
