FAQ about our PACK

Introduction

Pack 390 is based at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. We are an active Cub Scout Pack of approximately 80 boys in 9 Dens as well as our group of Tiger cubs.

What is Cub Scouting?

Here is a good explanation in the official Boy Scouts of America web site.

What is a Pack?

A Cub Scout Pack is a large group of Cub Scouts that meet monthly at a church, school, or other organization. The Pack is led by a Cubmaster, who is in charge of the Pack Meetings and the overall health of the Pack. In addition, a Council meets monthly with the Cubmaster to help plan Pack Meetings and other activities which affect the entire Pack. The Council is made up of a Council Chairman, the Treasurer and Secretary of the Pack, and any interested Den Leaders and Parents.

What is a Den?

A Den is a smaller group of Cub Scouts, using containing 6 to 10 boys all at the same rank and age. They are lead by at least 2 Den Leaders and usually meet weekly.

Will my boy go camping in the Cub Scouts?

In general, Cub Scouts do not go camping. An exception is the 2nd year Webelos Scouts, who are invited to go camping with a local Boy Scout Troop. Due to legal and insurance issues, no other "official" camping trips are allowed. However, there may be events where the families decide to camp together with their sons. This is called "Family Camping", and is allowed as long as each boy has at least one parent, AND that parent and their son sleep in the same tent.

What does the Annual Fee pay for?

This fee pays the BSA membership fee, and also the subscription to Boys' Life magazine

What does the Popcorn Fundraiser pay for?

Approximately 70% of the Popcorn sales goes back into Scouts. Part goes to the Dan Beard Council, and part goes to Pack 390. Pack 390 uses these funds to pay for all of the patches, badges, pins, and belt loops which are earned by the boys throughout the year. The Pack also pays for the Pack Meeting expenses, such as Rockets and Pinewood Derby cars. Some Pack Meetings feature speakers who charge a fee, which is paid from these funds.
