Be sure to check the schedule from time to time, we now have the date for our May camp out, Sailing with the Sea Scouts, on May 15-17.
Instead of a regular Troop meeting, we will have the wreath pickup on Nov. 25, at the Stegman's.
This year started off with a bang at Peterloon.
We now have a tentative schedule available on the website. For the first time, we are including a Winter High Adventure trip. Check it out!
The Winter High Adventure trip will be to a YMCA Camp near Muskegon, Michigan. This camp features heated cabins, all meals provided, snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, ice skating and ice fishing (weather permitting). Other activities include archery, climbing wall, & ropes course with zip line. Nearby is a luge run that features hair-raising rides at 60 mph. You won't want to miss this trip!!! Muskegon gets an average of 24 inches of snow in the month of December.
Merit Badge Challenge
Information on the Merit Badge Challenge is available on the Dan Beard website. The Merit Badge Challenge is an opportunity for Scouts to earn up to 3 Merit Badges in February and March, by attending three Saturday morning sessions at Sycamore High School. Most Merit Badges also require some prework and/or homework in order to complete the badge. Details are in the packet on the website. Registration requires a signature by the Scoutmaster, but is otherwise filled out and mailed in by the parent.
Parents!

Once again our Troop has the honor to be asked to carry the flag in the Finneytown 4th of July Parade. Scouts and Scouters are welcome to join us in the Parade.

We will carry the US Flag and our Troop Flag, and will raise a US Flag in the circle of Burgundy Lane.

In preparations for Summer Camp, you may find the following information useful.
We are going to Camp Friedlander once again. If you are unfamiliar with Friedlander, they have an excellent website to help you get acquainted with the camp.
The camp has many forms and instructions available on their downloads page. In particular, you may need the following items:
- Program Schedule shows the various programs offered through the week.
- Prerequisites lists the programs and the specific requirements for each one.
- Troop 857 Merit Badge Counselors page where you can also find the specific requirements for each Merit Badge.
- Art Merit Badge is a very popular, but requires a visit to an Art museum, gallery, etc. to complete. You should plan to do this before you arrive at camp.
- Pottery Merit Badge is another popular badge, but requires a visit to a school or facility that has a working kiln. You should plan to do this before you arrive at camp.
- Packing List
- Workshops explains the new program this year at Friedlander, allowing boys the chance to earn multiple handicraft merit badges.
- Hunter Education is another new program offered at camp, and is available for both boys and adults who are interested in obtaining an Ohio Hunting License.
- Troop 857 Notes is the handout you received from Mr. Stegman at the June 3rd summer Camp Meeting.
- Element of Danger Form is required for anyone participating in COPE, Climbing Merit Badge, Voyager (High Adventure), or Open Climb on the tower.
- SCUBA and Snorkel Release Form and SCUBA Medical Statement Form are required for anyone participating in PADI Snorkeling and/or PADI SCUBA. If you are Snorkeling only, the SCUBA Medical Statement does not need to be signed by your Physician.
