Also check out the Summer Camp Updates page for additional information.

We will be returning to Camp Friedlander this year, again in the first week of camp, June 19-25. The cost this year is $175. Scouts who wish to attend a second week may do so at a reduced rate of $145. (We do not yet have definite plans for a second week, we need adults who can stay the week!)

Camperships
Thanks to an endowment within The Right Direction capital campaign and the Order of the Arrow, the Dan Beard Council offers Camperships for registered Dan Beard Council Scouts who are unable to pay the full summer camp fee. Applications for Camperships are available at the Council Service Center and are due by May 1. Your Campership Confirmation(s) will be sent to you by mail. Camperships are not transferable if the Scout cannot attend summer camp. All Campership Scouts are expected to pay a portion of their fee and/or work to provide a service as a means to earn their Camperships. The ninth point of the Scout Law is a Scout is thrifty. He should do all he can to earn his own way. Partial Camperships enable more Scouts to attend summer camp.

We strongly encourage all Scouts to attend camp.

Our newest Scouts are encouraged to earn the Swimming Merit Badge if they are capable swimmers. Otherwise we encourage them to take Instructional Swimming. Also we encourage new Scouts to attend the First Year Camper program. Typically new Scouts attending this program advance one rank during the week, while learning valuable Scouting skills and the Patrol Method.

Activity Sign Up
Scouts must sign up for activities ahead of Summer Camp. We will begin sign ups in March. Activities do sometimes fill up, and they are filled on a first-come-first served basis, so it is important to do this early. Don't worry, you can change your mind later (subject to availability).

2nd Week of Summer Camp
Last year we had a 2nd week of summer camp, which allowed many boys to earn additional Merit Badges. We need at least 2 Adults who are willing to stay at camp with the boys. If we do not have enough adults for a second week, boys can always sign up for a second week anyway, and will be placed with a different Troop during the week. We recommend that boys go with a buddy to ensure a good experience.

Scouts who are age 14 and above may wish to consider serving on the Camp Friedlander Staff for the summer. This is a paid position, and allows a Scout to gain valuable experience.

We will be providing more information about Camp as we receive it, in the meantime consult the Camp Friedlander website for more information.

We now have the Leaders Guide available for download in pdf format.
