 | We want to welcome all boys that have recently joined our Troop. We recognize that you are anxious to advance in rank as soon as possible. So to help you along we have prepared this page of tips so that you will be a Tenderfoot in no time. |
Here are the requirements to become a Tenderfoot Scout. Also check out our Rank Advancement page.
Tips:
- Bring your Boy Scout Handbook to every meeting and every outing. Requirements can't get signed off when it is sitting at home.
- It takes at least one month to become a Tenderfoot Scout. This is because after requirement 10a, you must practice for 30 days before trying requirement 10b. So do 10a before you do anything else!
- On your first campout, be sure to get requirements 1, 2, & 3 completed. If you forget, you'll have to wait a whole month!
- All the other requirements can be done at any Troop Meeting. Each week, study two or three of them, then get them checked off at a meeting.
- Ideally your Patrol leader or Assistant Patrol Leader will sign off your requirements. However any adult leader or any scout who is at least 2 ranks higher than you may also sign off. (i.e. First Class Scouts & above)
- If possible, do not wait until the week before the Court of Honor for your Board of Review. These are time-consuming, & the adults cannot always get them all completed.
- Be Prepared for your Board of Review. You are expected to know all of the requirements by heart, without looking in your handbook.
- Plan on attending Summer Camp if at all possible. While at summer camp, concentrate on rank advancement & earning the Swimming Merit Badge. This badge is difficult to get otherwise, and you will be completing all of the Second Class & First Class swimming requirements at the same time!
