  • What are the requirements to join the Boy Scouts?
You must be at least 11 years old, OR have earned your "Arrow of Light" badge as a Webelos Scout, OR have completed the 5th Grade.

  • What are the ranks in Scouting? What will I be asked at my Board of Review? Can I have a sheet with the questions ahead of time so I can study?
    See our Rank Advancement page.

  • I need a permission slip!
We have a Generic Permission Slip right here for you to print & fill out.

  • What is a Camping Fund?
Our Troop Treasurer keeps a separate account for each Scout in his books. A Scout can earn money for the account by participating in fund raisers. Funds added to a Scouts' account may be used to defray the costs of certain outings and/or summer camp. Typically each year the Scouts participate in a Holiday Greens (Christmas wreath etc.) sale in the Fall.

  • Why can't I pay by check for camping trips?
The scouts who will be purchasing the food for the trip have only 2 days to do their shopping. We simply do not have time to go to the bank, cash the checks, and distribute the money to the scouts who are purchasing the food.

  • What kind of gear is required for Scouts?
    You'll need a uniform:
    1. BSA Shirt (either short or long-sleeved)
    2. 857 numerals
    3. Red shoulder loops (epaulets)
    4. Dan Beard Council Patch
    5. Neckerchief (supplied by the Troop when you make Tenderfoot)
    6. Neckerchief Slide
    7. Boy Scout Handbook

BSA pants/shorts, belt, socks, hat, etc. are welcomed but not required.

You'll also eventually need the following items:

    1. Mess Kit
    2. Water Bottle or canteen
    3. Sleeping Bag (appropriate for the weather)
    4. Tent
    5. Backpack
    6. Flashlight

A word from the Scoutmaster: Don't rush out and buy expensive equipment! Spend some time talking to more experienced Scouts and adult leaders, then choose your purchases carefully. It's wise to spend as little as possible at the beginning, until you get a feel for what type of equipment will work best for you. Your fellow Scouts and adult leaders will give you great advice on what to get and where best to find it.

You may find the following items useful on a few of the campouts. Once again, we suggest you wait & see what the other boys are using:

    1. Hard Hat for caving
    2. Compass for orienteering
    3. Small First Aid Kit for hiking (the Troop has a large kit that is available at all campouts)
    4. Folding pocket knife (Totin' chip required)
    5. Small hatchet (Totin' chip required)
    6. Small sharpening stone
    7. Small saw (Totin' chip required)
    8. Rainsuit or poncho

(Totin' chip is a card issued by the troop after you've completed a brief training session on carrying, using and caring for knives, saws and other cutting tools.)

A few of our Eagle Scouts work at the local Bass Pro Shops store. They may be able to alert you when items go on sale, & may be able to provide a discount.

  • What is Scout Spirit?
There is a requirement for each Rank advancement to "show Scout Spirit". This page lists some concrete things that you can do to demonstrate your Scout Spirit.

  • Why can't I keep food in my tent?
Bear in Tent: Food? WHAT food?
