Troop Job Jar
Posted by Jim Stegman, 10/3/06 at 3:54:51 PM.
Our Troop is always looking for moms, dads and young adults who can help us out in small or large ways. This "Job Jar" lists some tasks that need an eager volunteer! Please consider helping us by volunteering for something in the list.
Also, feel free to ask a Scout or two to help you with your job. It can be a positive experience for both you and the Scout(s).
- Merit Badge Counselor
If you look at the Merit Badge Counselor list, you can see that most of the badges have no counselors. At the bottom of the page you will find links to some materials that explain what you need to do to become a counselor, and what is involved.
- Merit Badge Challenge Coordinator
This person would get copies of the registration forms, present them at a Troop Meeting, help the Boys make their selections, and be available to answer any questions. When the registrations come back, you will need to contact each Scout to notify them of their schedule. Attend the challenge to assist any Scouts who do not know where to go.
- Troop Secretary
This person makes sure that we have updated information (address, contact phone numbers, etc.) for all Scouts and Adults involved with the Troop. Keeps track of each person's BSA Health Forms, including when they expire. Keeps track of training that was completed by each Adult (CPR, Youth Protection, Climb On Safely, etc.), including when they expire.
- Summer Camp Preparations Coordinator
This person would get copies of the registration forms, present them at a Troop Meeting, help the Boys make their selections, and be available to answer any questions. You will need to enter the registrations online, and make periodic updates as required to best satisfy each Scout's schedule. Track Summer Camp payments and Health Forms to make sure each Scout is up to date. Attend and preside over the Summer Camp Prep meeting on June 5th. Prepare a Summer Camp Roster for the Scoutmaster. Prepare an overall Troop activity schedule, and individual camper activity schedules.
- High Adventure Trip Coordinator
You can never start too early planning a High Adventure Trip! We need someone to investigate various options/locations, and present them to the Committee. Once a location is chosen, you will organize a planning group, prepare a planning timetable, and figure out all of the logistics and preparations that are required. You will need to "pitch" the trip to our Scouts and get them excited about it.
- Northminster Cub Scout Pack Liason
Attend both our Troop Committee Meetings and the Pack Committee Meetings. Help keep the lines of communication open between our units. Provide assistance as needed for the Pack. Help coordinate the assignment of Den Chiefs.
- St. Bart's Cub Scout Pack Liason
Attend both our Troop Committee Meetings and the Pack Committee Meetings. Help keep the lines of communication open between our units. Provide assistance as needed for the Pack. Help coordinate the assignment of Den Chiefs.
- Eagle Scout Guide
Assist our Life Scouts in staying on task to complete their remaining Merit Badges, choosing and completing an Eagle Project, and monitor and advise them in the expectations we have for our future Eagle Scouts. Once the basic requirements have been met, guide them through the application process to ensure that each item is completed on a timely basis. Assist them in preparations for their Eagle Court of Honor.
- New Scout Patrol Guide
We generally have one Patrol consisting of Scouts who have been in the Troop for less than one year. These guys need some extra help to bring them along and integrate them into the Troop. Help them through their advancements, and make sure they are aware of the various Troop activities that are going on.
- Court of Honor & Reception
We hold a Court of Honor in September, February, and May. Help plan and host the Court of Honor and the reception that follows.
- Fundraiser Chairman
Each year we have two or three fundraising activities. This is a great chance for the boys to make some money for their Scout Accounts, to help pay for Summer Camp and other Troop activities. A Fundraising Chairman would head up one "campaign", by distributing flyers and other materials, talking about the opportunity at Troop Meetings, following up with any boys who are participating, and finalizing everything at the end.
- WOW! Expert
Are you an expert in something that is exciting to the boys? We can incorporate your skill and knowledge into a Troop Meeting and/or Camping Trip.
- Official Positions
The Troop has a number of official positions, including Charter Organization Representative, Committee Chairman, Scoutmaster, Treasurer, Assistant Scoutmaster(s), Camping Coordinator, Advancement Chairman. Consider serving in one of these roles or serve as an assistant to a position.
